Cedric Price - The Potteries ThinkBelt - A City Caused by Learning
Cedric Price was an influential post WWII modernist architect who grew up in Stone, Staffordshire. He was a radical thinker and wanted to fundamentally challenge the way learning, architecture and economy are planned, managed and delivered for the benefit of everyone.

Cedric Price is an 'architects' architect' and his work continues to inspire some of the great architects of today including Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano.
The Potteries Thinkbelt is seen as his seminal masterpiece. It was not realised but epitomised his core values, ethos and approach. It also reveals his passion for Stoke-on-Trent. Price challenged the education profession and society to radically rethink our traditional approach to the university system and see great potential within an area blighted by industrial decline. Through his proposal Price sought to democratise learning and suggested the reuse of industrial railway lines as a network for the transfer and exchange of knowledge over a whole region rather than within a campus for the upper classes…
